Abstract

This study examined ease of loading lambs onto vehicles at livestock markets, and whether a handheld rattle (hells bells) improved the ease of loading. Groups of lambs that were led by Texels and Texel crosses were more difficult to load because they balked within the loading pen, often at the tailboard of the vehicle. Applying additional pressure with a hells bells did not overcome this problem. Other ways of encouraging Texels onto vehicles at markets need to be devloped.
